Laptop Power problem

I have a Toshiba sattelite laptop. on occasion while using it, the battery ICON will come on and it will stop using AC power. If I check the voltage out of the adapter when this happens it will be within specs for voltage. When the battery discharges the computer will shut off. If I try to run the laptop with the battery removed and the power cord plugged it it will not turn on, even tho the power lites in front are lit. If I let it sit for a while I can plug it back in, have the battery in and everything will work fine, it will run on AC power and the battery will charge. Then, again for no reason, it will switch to battery and run til the battery is dead. Any ideas?

 

Sounds like a power switch inside the laptop is overheating.
Have you tried another battery (borrowed)
Is it under warranty?

 

Still having the problem, not under warranty. A litle more info. Laptop will only turn on if battery and cord plugged in. Will not if either is not. When it does turn on it acts like its running on battery. as a matter of fact I'm down to about 10%. Have not tried a battery, kinda expensive until I get a better idea of whats wrong. I appreciate any help.

 

Take laptop and see if tech will try a good battery takes two minutes.
Have you tested the output from your charger. with a multimeter?
If it is not the battery or charger then it will most likely be an internal hardware problem.

Got good power out of the adapter. I'm thinking something in the power kine inside. Hopefully it'll be something simple. like maybe the power jack.
