The power jack for my laptop is faulty

It charges my battery fine, but can't provide enough power to the laptop itself when its plugged in. When the battery is fully charged, the laptop switches to AC power which result in a major performance drop. Laptop runs at full speed on battery power

Is there any way to force the laptop to use the battery while its plugged in?

Going to replace the jack but need something to use until then.

    * The fact the PC runs faster on battery power is strange. Go to CONTROL PANEL > POWER OPTIONS and check your settings. Try changing the power plan to "High Performance" and see if it helps the speed when on AC power.

    * By default, the PC will use AC power if it senses the charger is plugged in. The only way around this is to run the PC on battery power and plug it in if the battery reaches a critically low level.

    * Don't put off the power jack replacement. I have seen several units where a loose or defective power jack shorts out, sending an internal spark that trashes the motherboard.

    Hope this helps. :)
