laptop reboots several times before logging on properly

Hi,

My laptop keeps rebooting a few times before it eventually starts up. I am not sure as to what the message says before it restarts but it does give me the option of starting up in 'safe mode'.

My laptop is a IBM T60 Thinkpad, and has Windows 7.

How long have you had W7 installed on it, and/or what OS was originally installed?

How old is the hard drive?

I have had Windows 7 and this hard drive for the same length of time because my previous hard drive broke down around 2 months ago.

The Windows 7 OS was installed whilst my laptop was being repaired. My old OS was Windows XP.

Will the machine start in Safe Mode? If so, check your Device Manager, make sure there are no flags...you might also get into advanced system settings, startup and recovery settings, and make sure 'Automatically restart' is not checked...

I started it in safe mode and i unchecked the 'Automatically restart' option but....Now the laptop won't start up when i try to restart it. :confused

This may have made the problem worse. I have been told about holding F8 when i turn the laptop on, but i do not want to interfere with things that i don't understand. HELP!

Disabling the auto restart function has nothing to do with why the machine is crashing - it only tries to force Windows to give information as to why it's crashing. If that's a problem, then start the machine in Safe Mode, and reenable the auto restart function.
