this is a good one, i am not a fan is dell that much toshiba in my book is better for that and intel this one is good http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834114217

if you want amd i would go with this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834224055

if your really want a dell for what you want i would get this one http://configure.us.dell.com/dellst...C1&s=dhs&leadtime=6/19/2006&showleadtime=True
(i hope the link works) the only things i would change on this one is the video card go for the 256mb, the windows edition i would go with home not media center stuff, get a genuine re-installation cd, integrated sound blaster audio and the 9 cell battery that would put you right at about 1400.

Agreed, nice suggestions, however, I was hoping (and stated), anything up to $1300 taxes in :p thanks though...if only I had more $ to spend.

well for what you want and especially in a laptop you have to sped the cash, as you know upgrading a laptop is a pain, to me it makes no sense, what i would do is save a couple of months then add your cash and get a good one that you can use for 2 or 3 years. that's what i did for my bro, i got him a dell, and we spent 2000 even but it came with the new intel cour duo, 1 gig ddr2, 7200rpm HD, dvd-rw and a ati mobility 256mb so it will last him at least 3 years maybe 4.

It would help to post what country you are in.

I could recommend some, but they are mostly local and not available for other countries.

Also, what do you intend to use it for so someone can give you a more targeted response.

It will be for school and gaming (not overly heavy on gaming, but would like some good gaming capabilities), as I stated in the initial post. hehe :)

My gf and I bought the one in my sig( the 3rd one) just a couple of weeks ago from Dell for $840.00US. I'm sure you could easily upgrade to a larger Harddrive and stronger processor as well as the 15.4" widescreen and still keep it under $1300.00US. Although Im not a big fan of Dell either.
