I have a Dell Insprion 1505 with a cracked case around the LCD screen. Dell is sending replacement parts - the cost for them to install is out of sight. Can anyone tell me were to find directions for installing these parts? Dell will not help me on this either. With the broken case, laptop does not open or close correctly.
    Thanks,
    Sue

Yes I saw those post. Very interesting - but the way the way my is cracked effects the hinges and the hinge cover - so I can't open or close it all the way.

Try downloading and/or viewing the service manual here. I'm not sure if it will tell you what you need to know for your specific parts but you may get a rough idea.

Make sure it is the right notebook the model is E1505

Thanks - Thats exactly what I needed. All I could find was an owners manual not a service guide.

That's a very common issue, don't feel alone. I have seen people repair those hinges with parts made from PVC pipe and a heat blanket to mold the pieces to shape. A little epoxy later, viola!, a repaired hinge.
