Laptop Running very slowly recently

Hi there, my laptop has been running really slowly recently. I'm not sure what's causing it whether it's a virus, malware, age or a mix of the above.

What I do know is that my girlfriend signed up to paypal recently and quickly got a spoof email with her name in it, figure that could be some kind of trojan?

Any help you can offer will be much appreciated.

I would do as rustyjack suggested but I also wouldn't waste any time getting back in to that paypal account from a computer that you know is clean and change the password. If she set it up on an infected computer, someone could have access to that account.
