I have a Everex Stepnote 1.7GIG laptop and when I run it off the battery pack the screen dulls quite a bit.. I'm not really familiar with laptops.. do they all do this? I've messed with power setting and everything.

If I'm running off straight power it's bright and just plain awesome.

That would be a battery saving feature. Same idea with mobile proessors-- they run at a slower speed on battery to lengthen run time. Many laptops-- not sure about yours-- having the option of brightening the display even while on battery power. Look for function key logos that look like a bulb or sun with up and down arrows-- most likely on your up and down arrow keys themselves. Used in conjunction with the Function key, of course.

Laptops are generally set to a dimmer setting when running off battery power in order to improve battery life and allow the laptop to run longer on the same charge.

This can usually be adjusted in the BIOS. The setting/location varies for different brands and models.

And like the previous poster mentioned, most laptops will allow you to adjust the brightness using certain key combinations which should be indicated on the keys.
