laptop screen help

Hello Guys
I would like a bit of help with my laptop it is a Advent 8315, it does not go to full screen, there is a black area on the right hand side and a smaller area along the bottom, even in the bios… (See pic 1) here is what I have tried …updating the bios to the latest,,, updated the graphics to the latest.. Changed the screen Inverter, still no joy any ideas would be most welcome

P.S. when I connect it to a external monitor it works fine!!

 

It looks as if there's a problem in the connection between the Graphics card and inverter/display on the laptop monitor OR the display resolution isn't set correctly. Did you try a replacement cable? If that doesn't solve the issue, you'll need a replacement graphics card just like I do (but, mine's for a Dell).

thanks for the reply, if when I connect it to a external monitor it works fine, does that mean the graphic card is ok? I will get a new cable and try that as well

Apparently the VGA connection on the graphics card is OK because you state that it works fine with your external monitor. But, different circuitry and connections are used for the laptop's built-in display.

I've got a different problem with my particular graphics setup — heat (the lack thereof) — and it eventually blue screened my computer. Using WinDbg I was able to determine that I needed a replacement graphics card after having replaced the inverter board and cable.

I've apparently got a micro break in some circuit or weak solder connection that corrects itself once heat expansion sets in or a chip that needs some heat to operate properly. My display issues only occur when things have had a chance to cool down.
