Laptop Shutdown, Please Help

hello Major Geeks,
i need some advice please if anyone can.

i have a Dell Inspiron 1545. it was working perfectly a 6 month ago and now it just wont stay on. it boots up fine but after about 10mins it just shuts off. a friend put on new drivers. she downloaded about a 6 month ago when all these problems started but she says it the hard drive. but im not sure and obviously want to find a way of fixing it if its a little issue without causing expense if its not needed. can anyone give me some advice please as i cant do anything with it xxx

 

Sounds like a classic case of overheating. Obviously, when using it, you need to ensure the vents aren't obstructed as using any laptop either on your lap or in bed, where it's lying on fabric, can restrict the airflow. So try it on a hard surface first and if it still shuts off then the vents or fan may be blocked with fluff so, without dismantling it, put your vac hose against all the vents and if that doesn't work then get a can of compressed air and try blowing them. If that doesn't work either then before taking it to be properly cleaned install Speccy and check your temps after a few minutes, before it shuts off, and post them here.

 

Hi earthling, i use it on a fan board, one of those thing you can sit it on and you plug in the usb and the fan turns on keeping it cool. It dont stay on long enough to install anything. My friend had it to clean it out and that was all she was ment to do, she opened it up and cleaned it completely of dust and dirt using both compressed air and vac. I cant even run a simple check on it now. I bought a new battery pack thinking it was that at it worked fine untill she removed the tape from off the old battery wire then said it was the hard drive and started downloading stuff. Xx
