laptop shutting down during burn

i use windows dvd maker to burn my movies from avi to dvd it gets to bout 6% of encoding then laptop turns off im using acer laptop with vista os any suggestions to this problem would be greatly appreciated

 

The laptop turns all the way off? If so, are you able to restart it with no problems, or do you have to wait a bit? Does this ever happen during other tasks, like graphic intensive games? Is there ever any kind of error message?

This could be a heat issue . . . encoding video is a computer-intensive task. Your computer's components all work harder and thus generate more heat. When it turns off does any part of its exterior seem unusually hot?

 

yes it does turn all the way off then restarts normally with no error message but the left side of keyboard is usually pretty warm when it happens
