I have a Samsung laptop with windows 10. The last couple of days it has been running extremely slowly. Google Chrome keeps freezing and other programs are not responding. I ran malware bytes yesterday and it was clean. Today it is so slow it is barely useable. I tried restarting and now Google Chrome won't open. Tried to run Cleaner but it kept freezing and even the task manager is really slow. Not really sure what to do

Did the laptop come with 10 or was it upgraded? Does it have a spinning hd or an ssd? How much RAM is in the laptop?

What is the CPU usage showing? What process is using the most CPUs? (List the top 3)
I'd test the RAM and the hard drive.

It has been upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. It is an SSD. It is 4GB of RAM. At the time of the problem the CPU usage was around 99%. I couldn't figure out what is what all from. the laptop is running fine today. I have chrome and quite a few tabs open and CPU usage is around 5%. How would I test the ram and hard drive?

There have been problems with April's updates (Tuesday was patch day) slowing down and freezing computers if certain av programs were installed.
At first it seemed the only problem was Sophos but a few days later Avira, Avast and AVG were mentioned. So perhaps you were hit with a problem like that.

For future reference to test RAM, use MemTest86.

I'm not sure how to test an ssd.

Ok thanks. I just use Windows defender and MalwareBytes free version. It seems to be ok at the moment now. Must have been something to do with the update then
