hey guys anybody got any good tips / myths / advice on increasing battery life on laptops while watching dvds or general usage thanks

 

Turn down the room lighting if you can and then turn down the brightness of the screen the backlight is a pretty good juice sucker,the less you use your cpu for addittional tasks while watching DVD's the longer your battery will last so press control,alt,delete stop any uneeded processes,you can stop your antivirus,anti spyware and firewall if your not connected to the internet,they will reload next time you start your computer,dont go online with them disabled

I run my laptop on AC power as often as I can. (Toshiba Tecra A7 duo-core)
I remove the battery altogether when on AC power.
I only insert my battery when I have no access to AC. (doh).
I insert the battery every week, or so, just to check the charge.

My old laptop (circa 1999) would not operate on AC, without the battery inserted and I still got around 3 years operation with a battery.

Don't know how long this battery will last, (laptop is 8 month's old) but hope to get at least 3 years life out of it. Bazza

PS: If they give you the option of purchasing a higher rated battery than the one fitted as standard, buy that one if you afford it. Baz

Hi. A few things come to mind. One is to select "None" for your screensaver selection (screen just goes dark), the other is to go into your BIOS setup utility and see if there are any power-saving options. My Toshiba allows you make such selections. Lastly, shut down when you can. Good night and good luck.
