laptop to laptop

ok my son smashed my ex-sister in laws Sony vaio, i have a gateway t-series. we both are running vista 32bit systems. i had a external monitor so she could still use the laptop. i leave for the weekend come back and they did something now the monitor is saying no signal. hook it to mine works great. i was going to try and connect my laptop to hers via usb to look at setting and see if they changed anything, but finding the info to make this happen has proved difficult. any help or advise would be very helpful, thanks in advance guys. love this site. also any advice for someone starting school for comp programming? i want to be a IT perosn

You can not (to my knowlege) connect via USB What you need is some sort of remote desktop setup, which unless it is already configured on the laptop could be problematic.

I suspect they have turned off the VGA output on the laptop. One of the Function keys should have a little picture like a monitor on it. Hold down the fn key and press it and it should begin to cycle through the options. Keep pressing it and eventually the monitor should come on. What laptop do you have? I can prob provide better instructions

 

tried the fn key and monitor key, typed them for about a min or two nothing happen. mine is a gateway t-series model w350i

 

If this hasn't worked then you probably have a hardware fault. The GPU will be integrated onto the motherboard so you are looking at a new motherboard.
