i hope i have posted in the correct place i am in no way a computer minded person so please be patient as im willing to learn my problem is the following
i connected my G/D laptop to her tv with the cable i was told i needed at first the tv told me no signal was being received so the shop where i brought the tv from told me i needed to change my settings in the control panel now heres my problem
i have a icon in the control panel which is for and i quote intel (R)82852/82855 GM/GME Graphic controll panel that the one i was told to change under the Device tab i have the following
NOTEBOOK TELEVISION INTEL (R) DUEL DISPLAY CLONE EXTENDED DESKTOP
Which one do i have to highlight to apply as i have tried them all i think ?lol
as i can get the monitor to come on the tv but it has no desktop icons showing on the tv

Now if i go to the display icon on the control panel i have a 2 blue boxes one with a number 1 and the has number 2 on it and it tells me
(drag the monitor icon to match the physical arrangement of your monitor )
i have 2 drop down menus underneath which also give me 2 options
    (display monitors on )
    (default monitor on intel R)

which one do i need ?
i have no idea what i need to do so help is really needed

Television but you probably also have to go in and look at PAL or NTSC.
If you live in the US or Canada, you need to select NTSC.

You might also have to change the desktop settings so it is smaller because NTSC displays at 720 x 480 or 640 x 480 and I suspect the taskbar might be too low to see on the tv screen.

What is the brand and model of the laptop so I can search for a manual online with additional information.

Sounds like it is extending the desktop not mirroring. Usually new LCDs have a RGB or like, you plug a cable from the laptop to the LCD and hit a key sequence usually Function + some other key to send the signal out the RGB port on the laptop (used for projectors usually).
Going thru windows you have to make sure your not selecting extend my desktop, if you hit identify (in control panel, display & settings tab) you'll see a big number 1 on both screens, if you see 1 and 2, you're in extended mode.

    You want PAL then.
I also need the model of portege so I know exactly what ports are on your notebook.
