Hello! I got some great help from you guys on my laptop recently, got it completely de-bugged, and everything was running smoothly. This weekend, my laptop worked properly on Saturday.. shut down as normal and had no problems. Yesterday, I try to turn it on- The lights come on as if my computer is powering up, and I can hear stuff moving, but the screen remains completely black, and after a few seconds everything seems to stop (everything, except that the power light and battery light remain on). Any idea what could be the problem? I don't know of anything that happened to cause this... Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

    Thank you!

Is the battery charged and the power cable plugged in?

Make and model and operating system would help us.
Have you tried plugging in an external monitor in case your screen is kaput? Let us know.
Maybe stopping and waiting for keyboard input, which you can't see because of black screen

    Hi Bazza & Rikky-

It is an HP Omnibook 6000 laptop with windows xp pro. The battery is fully charged, and I have tried to power on with the battery in and out, plugged in and not. Haven't noticed any problem with the battery not charging correctly.

I will try plugging into another monitor and get back to you!

    Thanks!

I tried using this monitor in my laptop, and still got nothing. Also, it seems that there is now cool air that starts seeping out the right side of the computer when I turn it on. Bad sign??

    Thanks!

There's not alot of intervention that you can do, you can try reseating the memory if there's an access panel on the bottom of the laptop. Just make sure the battery is out and it's unpluged from power.

When you tried the monitor, you did use the "FN" Key (bottom left hand side of keyboard) in conjunction with monitor function key ((F12) it varies on different laptops I think). The cool air issue, might not be an issue unless it fails to heat up over a longer period of time. It should just be a fan vent, venting hot air from your processor. It should warm up after a while, if the process is indeed running.

If reseating the memory, and/or putting an external monitor doesn't do it, I hope it has a warrenty, or you're good at changing a laptop system board/monitor. Good luck.

PS: on second thought, do you have access to another power adapter? It's a long shot, but a cheaper fix in the long run if it's the issue!

Hi Fastdogone.. just tried the screen again, with the fn/f5 button and no luck.

Also, I don't see any kind of switch in the access panels.. what would this look like?

Other than that, this computer unfortunately has no warranty.. guess I will need a new one!!

    Thanks for your help!

Ebay has a display for sale but less than 2 hours left.

If you don't read this within 2 hours, try a google search.

Type exact phrase of HP Omnibook 6000 and you will get plenty of hits. Scroll down the hits looking for a screen for sale, as that apppears to be the problem. Can you, or do you know anyone who can disassemble your laptop? Have you moved it lately? Maybe a loose monitor connection cable. Maybe not. Sorry, no further ideas. Bazza

Before you buy a new monitor try and make sure the connections are secure from your LCD to your board in the laptop. You will have to go to the manufacturers website to get the instructions on which screws to remove to access these connections, but it could save you alot of money if a connection came loose.

I was looking around on the hp website and found that these symptoms usually means a problem with my power pca. Any idea how to check if this is the problem?

HI, I had a HP Laptop and every now and then I had to push on the case just above the keyboard between the keys and the display and the the display would come back on. The ribbon like cable that connect right under that area would work loose. HP is really good at making sure customers can't disassemble and reassemble the laptops. It takes a lot of creative effort to put one pack together. Be real brave before you take one of these apart.
