can't get power to laptop. ac cord plug-in to laptop is damaged on laptop. battery is not charged. HD has data I need. my second comp is also a laptop.
    2 ???'s
    1) is there another workaround to getting power to laptop long enough to remove data from HD?
    2) is there an adapter cable that will go from removed laptop hd to another laptop connector to enable data transfer?

You can buy an adapter cable that will allow you to plug your laptop drive ( 2.5"drive to 3.5"drive), into a desktop PC.

You could also buy an external USB case (for 2.5"drives), fit your laptop drive in it, and plug it into another PC (or your second laptop), via the USB port. Better option, IMHO. Bazza

    Hmmmmm...

Try to borrow a friends power cord and see if it fits.

Or try an electronics store like Radio Shack, for example, to find a replacement.

  Yep, as Shotgun_Shortz points out, I should have suggested this first.
Most AC power cords are what they call figure of eight "8" as this is what they look like on one end. Some differ, of course.

Most (all?) laptops have a power supply that plugs into your laptop and a separate AC power lead that goes to the wall socket and plugs into the other end of your power supply.
Do you know if your power supply is OK, or are you sure it is the AC cord, or both?

Do you know anyone with the same model laptop that you can try your power supply out on. Make doubly sure that the in and out voltages on your power supply match up before trying this.

Most laptop power supplies take an input of 100-240V AC but it is the output that it is vital to make sure it is the same as your laptop. If the output is NOT the same than SEVERE DAMAGE can result. Bazza

You guys are gr8...thanks for all the help.
I did find an external hard case enclosure relatively inexpensive that was USB 2.0 ppwered that enable me to use my 2.5 HD. So that was successfull.

We've taken the power supply to the laptop and taped the cord to the case so that it has a consistent hard connection. This is working for the short term to enable us in completing removal of stuff from the laptop desktop.
again many thanks for the gr8 options.

the lap top can big fixed, what happened is that the solder joints broke on the dc jack, take it apart and get it re soldered ( tv repair guys can do it) it might cost you like $20 if you bring them the part. then put it all back together again and it will be running like new.
