Laptop turns on but nothing on screen sometimes - Hardware or Bios maybe?

Hi everyone

This laptop is an Acer Aspire 5535 with Windows Vista


The problem is this, The laptop will always turn on but most of the time, nothing on screen. I have tried with external monitor but only comes up when the laptop turns on with something on the screen. Apparently this type of thing is a common problem with acer laptops.

I have tested the memory and hard drive and those dont seem to be the problem. It used to just switch off about a minute after it came on but that doesnt seem to happen anymore, its just the screen now. The fan is going and all the lights are on.

Could this be a problem with the graphics chip? Ive tried turning the laptop on when its hot or cold and it doesnt make a difference. Ive tried just running it off the mains and that doesnt make a difference.

it works fine but only when the laptop does (when something on the laptop screen comes up)

 

What is the exact model ? At the bottom of the laptop there is a label like this

either the screen/panel is broken or you can check if the screen cable is faulty as you said ( The laptop will always turn on but most of the time, nothing on screen ) :wave

How did it used to just randomly switch off if its a screen cable problem? Shorting out? What can I do?

 

Maybe this is a cable problem , you have to dismantling it :wave

might do that but it seems to charge fine with no problems. I have a multimeter to test it if that helps
