    Good day
I have an Amilo 1820 laptop on Vista home. When I tried to turn it on yesterday
the power light showed and initially it looked as though it was booting. After a long time it did not boot so I shut down and rebooted. This time power and nothing, no bios, no cursor. Tried using a Hirens boot disk and it turned over for a little while and then stopped. Tried a Vista disk - the same. I was wondering if its the screen but no continual disk drive while booting seems to negate that.It may be the hard drive but I would have thought the bios would come up and I could use a DVD or Pen to boot.
Tried Ubuntu disk - no go. Can anyone give me an idea where to look or is it the repair shop??. Its 6 years old but a 17ins screen and whereas I would hang on if I can sort it out easily it may be more worthwhile finance wise to go to a Ubuntu tablet when they come out. Thanks in advance

Hi my friend , without ac power your laptop is working properly or not ? I mean with battery only , you can also remove the battery and Ac adapter pushing the power button for 1 minute or so after that you can plug them again restarting for machine , at the bottom of the laptop there is a sticker with the model of your laptop , give it to us :wave

    Hi Falconattack

The pc was stored for 9 months and when I went to power up the battery was dead so for the last 3 years I have run off mains. It is a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo LI 1818. So can do nothing about battery as you suggest. Thank you

    Hi Falconattack

Does not have it. Does say intel dual core. On line I found the following which sounds right except mine came with just 1 Gig Ram.-Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li 1818 with Intel Core 2 Duo T2080 1.73 GHz Dual Core Processor, 2GB of Memory and 160GB Storage on Windows Vista Home Premium. DVD writer
I understood you to mean take the battery out and then press the boot button for 60 secs but as I had not battery did not think it should be done. Would you expand a little [please.

    Thanks

No I power down in the Vista sequence.I did have a power outage when I last used it. I wonder if this hit the hard drive. But even if it did why do I not get the BIOS start and be able to use say Ubuntu on CD/Pen which is the first startup position on the BIOS.
