i scaned with mcafee antivirus, adaware, mcafee antispyware, windows defender

are there any other programs i could try?..il be glad to go to bestbuy and buy it

    Hi!
    Check your settings here:
    Control Panel>Power Options>Advanced tab
    Are they like the pic?

You don't really need this running: You could disable it.
    qconsvc - qconsvc.exe - Process Information
    Process File: qconsvc or qconsvc.exe
Process Name: IBM Thinkpad Utility Component
    Description:
qconsvc.exe is a part of the IBM Thinkpad Utilities. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference.
    This as well:
    Sptisrv.exe Information
This is a valid program but it is not required to run on startup.
This program is not required to start automatically as you can run it when you need to. It is advised that you disable this program so that it does not take up necessary resources.
I didn't see any 'baddies' in your log, but I'm no expert.

    :)

    Me again.
Well, I found several suggestions while searching for info about your prob:
If these steps don't work it was suggested it may be a malware issue.

Next screen is black and should have windows XP home/professional (depending on xp product)/ hit enter and computer will roll back to it's last known good config. It's a more 'Forced Restore' than system restore.

    wat u mean by that?

  7. Toni_1947

    Toni_1947 Command Sergeant Major

    You're on a home computer...not a company computer?
You use your credit or debit card online?
    You do online banking?

You may want to check your account/s to make sure none of your info has been 'stolen' and used/can be used by anyone.

  19. Greeknasty

    Greeknasty Private First Class

    oh dont worry..none of that...lol

Take a look at these keys and report your values ....they are to speed up shut down ...
    Start Regedit.
    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control.
    Click on the "Control" Folder.
    Select "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"
Right click on it and select Modify.
Set it a value lower than 2000

HKEY_Current_User\Control Panel\Desktop and look for AutoEndTasks. Default is "0". Set this value to "1".

Set it a value lower than 2000

    how lower??

  25. Greeknasty

    Greeknasty Private First Class

and the value in it now...is 20000..not 2000

    lol

  26. TimW

TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member

Setting to a value lower than 2000 was to speed up a slow shut down ...if your at 20,000, you might want to lower that a tad!!!!:) :) :) :)

  27. Greeknasty

    Greeknasty Private First Class

lol but what number should i lower it too?..1000 1500?

  28. TimW

TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member

Sure ..1500 (or 1999) ...we just want to see if it will shut down!!:) :)

It's the same for me Tim, but I have no power off problems.
Could it be something in BIOS?

alright set the first thing to 1500 but the secon thing u told me..when i go to modify it, it says Value Data: 4e20

  31. TimW

TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member

Leave the second alone ...let's see what the first does.

And Toni has a point ...what are your power off settings in the bios?

Mine are all set to 1000.

  32. Greeknasty

    Greeknasty Private First Class

    still no hope...

noticed somethin diff tho...explorer.exe wasnt responding after i clicked shut down

  33. TimW

TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member

Reset your values ...then look at your bios setting ...power management ...

Which I assume has been done under properties on the desktop?

  34. Greeknasty

    Greeknasty Private First Class

lol sorry if im asking for alot but can you explain to me how to do that stuff? i really dont wnat to mess up the registry...

  35. TimW

TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member

Change that value back to 20,000 if you like ....
to check your power off ..right click the desktop / properties / screensaver / power ...make sure the scheme is laptop //advanced tab ...press power button= shut down ...make sure hibernate is off.

When you boot up ...first screen should tell you how to acces bios ...either delete key / or f1 ....
will be a tab for power management(hopefully) ....just check each setting and look for power settings that might be screwed up.:) :)

  36. Greeknasty

    Greeknasty Private First Class

alirght i did those power settings like u said..nothing happened..im in the power part of the BIOS...and dont really think theres anything wrong...is there anywhere specific u woudl like me to look at???

Just looked at all the posts in the thread and don't see what kind of laptop it is ...brand/model/etc. So not sure what options you have in the bios as to power off.
    Did you try this?
control panel / user acounts / click "change how users log on and off" uncheck "use fast switching".

  45. Greeknasty

    Greeknasty Private First Class

ok i searched and found this and did this
"Start Button / Run / Type in msconfig / Click Enter / Select the Startup Tab / See if "tfsctrl" is in there. If so, "uncheck" it and reboot your computer"

i did that and it stil lwont shut down...who knows

  46. TimW

TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member

It's part of the hp packet writing for your cd burning software ....$MS has had some of its updates screw with HP printers and so I would recommend uninstalling the program ....see if that fixes the issue...check for updates that $MS has issued that fix said problems and then reinstall the HP program.

  47. Greeknasty

    Greeknasty Private First Class

what program is that again?...idk if ive ever seen a HP program on the laptop..but i do use a HP printer...

  48. TimW

TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member

One of $MS updates caused a lot of problems with hp printers ....don't remember the update # ...they issued a fix for the update ...go to $MS and have it look for updates to your system. Read them and find the one that addresses that problem with the printers.
