Laptop will not start, no matter what I do

I cannot get my laptop to start up. It starts booting up and gives me the options to either start in Safe Mode, Last Known settings where Windows worked, etc. I have tried them all and it gets to a certain point and then nothing. I have even tried booting with the XP disk in the computer and it gets to a point where it says Windows is starting and nothing happens. This occurred after I was trying to switch the video from the computer to the Tv by using Function F7. This is when it stopped.

 

A little information about your laptop would be helpful like a brand name and model number and if you have restore media that may have an option to install the OS without wiping the drive.

 

It is a Gateway Solo 9150. It is about 6 years old. I have tried booting by using the Windows XP restoration disk and still no luck. I called the local computer repair shop today asking what they thought it may be and they stated may be a video problem. It starts to boot and a list of drivers start showing up on the screen then all of a sudden it stops. (This occurs while trying to boot in safe mode). When trying to boot normally it freezes after the Windows screen appears. They told me they would have to run a diagnostics on it to see what exactly is wrong with it. Is there a diagnostics program I can download here to to the same thing? It is not worth spending a lot of money on.
