    I have a Dell Inspiron N4010 laptop, ST: 5LZ97P1
Plugged in with the battery in, it will not start, no lights come on when it is plugged in.
remove battery, plug in and same thing, nothing.
    i removed memory cards, nothing
I removed battery, pushed power button then plugged in power, & nothing. Removed battery, pushed power button, put battery back in then plugged it in.... and nothing.
No power lights, no battery lights, nothing happens at all.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

My first thought is the power supply is dead,if you have a multimeter handy test the plug that goes into the laptop and make sure it matches the voltage written on the side of the psu,if you don't own a multimeter or have no idea how to use one then if you have a power connected light and it isn't turning on when you plug in the power supply you can be pretty sure its dead.

Another thing to check is the physical connection between the AC cable and the power supply often similar to a three pin kettle plug, check its pushed in tight that one always gets me on my laptop.

thanks for the response Rikky. I work for a communications company in a small town where we provide internet service, computer network and repair service, franchise to Radio Shack & AT&T. I do have the equipment to test this comp with and nothing has worked so far. I have searched the web, including Dell's web site and found no real answer to the problem. My question is, does the laptop have a pwr supply, other than the battery, on the mobo that can be replaced? or do you think it may be a mobo problem? or....can the ac jack to the mobo cause this?
desktops I can fix.... laptops.... ummm still educating my self on these...
    Thanks for the help.

The only other battery on mobo is the cmos battery which can be replaced,if the psu and battery is working yeah test the ac jack on the mobo, check the solder and re-solder as necessary.

Dell did you say?Have you done the battery test or is it too old?
