My laptop is about a year old, and has worked pretty well so far. But in the last two weeks I have started to have a real problem with it. When I connect to the internet by wireless, it slows to a crawl.

I've defragmented, and run Pctools Spyware/Antivirus as well as their Registry Mechanic, and the problem has not resolved. That said, my registry Mechanic turns up the same errors every single time I run it, no matter if they are fixed when I use it, as well as any new ones that crop up.

As a result I have a couple questions.

    1. Is there any software I can get on the internet that you would recommend that will run a diagnostic on my wireless card, from drivers to configuration, or should I just post all the stats of my configuration and hope I've made a mistake in trying to wring extra juice out of it that you guys can spot?

    2. Could these registry errors be the cause, and if so, should I post them? And if so, do I have any hope of resolving that problem if the registry is the source of my wireless crawl?

i have the same problem as you. unfortunately, i dont have a solution, but i just wondered- have you recently updated to Windows SP3 because the problem only really started when i updated to sp3 i think.

Do you mean the computer "slows to a crawl" in overall performance, or just that your Internet connection is very slow?

Do you have wireless security (WEP or WPA) enabled? If you connect the laptop directly to your router or modem via cable, do you have the same connection speed?

I would try different virus and spyware removers. Try running Spybot S&D, Ad-aware and Grisoft AVG they are all free.

At first, I thought it was just an internet slowdown, because that was what I largely used it for, but as I have used it since the problem began I think it's an overall slowdown.

The network I use my laptop on is a public network, so I've never connected it by cable, but if the opportunity comes up, I will try.
