Laptop With Extended Monitor

I needed a new computer at home, and for my work, I also needed a monitor.
At work we all have a laptop with 1 or 2 extended monitor(s), so I also wanted an extended monitor at home, if I'm in home office (the laptop containing company-specific programs).
I bought an All-in-one PC (All-in-One-PC CSL Unity F27B-GLS / Windows 11 Home / 512GB+8GB with HDMI port) and yesterday I tried to connect it to my laptop with an HDMI cable. I tried with the All-in-one switched out, switched on, it didn't work. Finally I found out on the PC's website that the HDMI port is an "HDMI out", and on the company laptop it's an "out" too. I called the company to ask how I could connect the two, they said the only solution would be a "capture card". Today I called a friend who owns a video capture card, and he explained that he connects the device to his TV set top box and his computer, so he watches the TV-program on the computer. He sent me the link to a small video capture card with HDMI input and USB output, he thinks it should work for my problem. But I'm not sure because in fact he watches the SAME video on the computer which would be on the TV, it's just another screen. So if I buy a capture card and connect the laptop to the All-in-one PC, wouldn't I see the same picture on both devices? Or could that work as an extended monitor? Please help.

No, neither will work as an extended desktop monitor using a capture card, which is what I believe you intend.

What you need is a simple monitor for your laptop or PC.
