Laptop Won't Charge Battery or Run On AC

Hi,
How do I check this out?

My Compaq Presario 2700 laptop all of a sudden both stopped charging it's battery and won't run on AC anymore. The first day it happened I left it overnight unplugged and no battery in it. The next day it was ok but only for that day and then it went back to not charging/AC. I have 2 of these laptops and 6 batteries so I know it's not the batteries or the power supplies.

I'm getting ready to do an os format and re-install to see if that helps but I can't do it until I finish a bunch of work and do backup, and I'd rather not if I don't have to.

Anybody know of a way to test it to see if I have a device failure or a software glitch?

how do you know its not the power supplies.??
i have several the green lite comes on, but they do nothing for the laptop

 

Because the batteries are charging in his other laptop

with what your describing it appears there is a connection problem between the the dc jack and the computer/battery,the computer has a connection with the battery,I would say there is a good chance of the socket being bad,so check inside make sure the + probe is in the centre of the hole and not loose and the - on the outside is also springy and not loose,have you tried wiggling the plug while its in?does the charge light come on at all and then go off?

The only way to test is to take the laptop apart and test the circuit first starting at the socket end and working toward the battery looking for a faulty connection
