Laptop wont connect

i need help with my laptop.... i think i found the reason why my wireless adapter for my laptop doesnt work now and i wanted to download WinSockFix on my laptop so i can fix it and i tryed to use my regular internet cable box to connect to the internet like i always do and magically it doesnt work now! it says that im connected but the internet still doesnt work, iv been messing with it all morning ... iv tried to reboot completely with my XP Disk that i got with it but whats my luck? i lose the CD so now i cant even do that! i need help!
