Laptop Won't Go Back To Sleep After Waking Up

Hi guys, I've had a problem for a while to which I've found no solution. I have an alarm clock installed, which is scheduled to wake up the computer and play a tune every morning. It works very well; however, I recently realized that my laptop doesn't go back to sleep after it's waken up, so it just stays on and drains the battery. I've been able to replicate the problem by manually putting my laptop to sleep/waking it back up, so it shouldn't have anything to do with the wake timer itself. From what I've gathered, sleep mode automatically works the first time after my laptop is restarted. After I put it to sleep/wake it back up once, sleep mode doesn't work by itself anymore. Please help.

I'm confused - which is the accidental post? This one below, or the original post #1??
If your original issue is still one you want help with, then please tell us the following:
1. What is the Operating system and any service pack installed and is it 32bit or 64bit
2. What is the exact name and version of the 'Alarm Clock' software you have installed?

 

Hi Max, thank you for your reply. The second post was created by accident, not the OP. As for your questions, I'm using Windows 8.1, and the alarm clock program is just named "Free Alarm Clock." Thanks.
