I have a dell cpxj laptop that is running win 2000. When i go to start-shut down or even start-restart, it just sits there like i didnt do anything, So i have to manually power it down holding down the button and then i get an error message saying that the drivers for the keyboard will not let the computer go to standby mode. I have attempted to update the drivers but itsays that i have the most current driver. I am stumped. Any ideas?

I have a Dell Latitude, and I guess the off switch is software related, because sometimes it won't let me turn it off. I just pull the battery out. That lets it know who's boss. Then it works pretty well for a while after that. :)

I have the same laptop. Most of the time it works okay but there were problems with the motherboards in some of them. The other thing you might want to try is updating the BIOS. Go to Dell's site for the update. I don't remember what the latest one is but I'm sure it's changed in the last 8 months. Good luck.
