Laptop wont start up ??

Ok so wondering what i should have checked out first.

I plug the laptop into the wall and the charger lights up green on the converter [the big box between the comp/wall plug so i know its getting power. i try to turn the computer on and NOTHINg, it wont even turn on when unplugged and even if i remove battery and plug it in.

What should i be looking for / having checked etc ?

 

It could be that your powerjack socket is loose or broken,will it start with just the battery in??.

its not starting AT ALL with battery without plugged in not plugged in any combo im getting NOTHING

 

If i take it to geeksquad will they test the power for free ?someone told me this ? atleast i can get a diagnosis

YES you can take it to the repair shop and ask them for free diagnosis, they normally offer this service for free so no harm in asking. It definatly sounds like your onboard power jack socket has died or became detached from the board, a very common issue with laptops, when you have the power cord plugged into the jack socket is there a lot of movement with the jack?? it should be an inexpensive fix $30-40 that is best done by someone who is good at soldering as it can kill your board if it is done wrong, I would advise removing your harddrive also, so if they can fix it they can't see personal info.
