LapTop ?

Hi, I have a very limited knowledge base concerning computers and I have a few questions .

I have a desk top Cp which is connected to ADSL through a router 4 port switch.

I have recently been given two laptops, a IBM thinkpad 600E and a Toshiba Tecra 7740cdt. Can I connect these laptops up to the internet through the router. I do not even know if these laptops have the potential to be connected to the internet. I have been told that the IBM works fine, however I do not have the right adapter, it’s a English power connection.

The reason I ask is I have D.L the suggested spyware etc programs to my desktop and have installed them to the Toshib and I can not start them until I have updated them online. The second question is which laptop is the better one. I want my son to have one for school, as he is entering high school and the other one I will give to a charity organisation.

First off, yes you can connect both of the laptops to the net using the switch side of your router/switch combo. Just hook the ethernet cables form the laptops to the switch ports and set the network cards on the laptops to obtain an ip address automatically (that's if your router is using DHCP to assign network addresses - the default for most "off the shelf" routers).

As for the power on the IBM system, they use 220 volt AC overseas for eveyrthing. Just like all our gear is 120 volt AC. What you will have ot do is go the Radio Shack or some other electronics store and pick up a converter. Or you could call IBM and just order a new power supply for the laptop (that's what I would do).

As for which laptop is better... Post the specifications and I would be happy to give you my opinion.
