my sisters laptop has no light in the monitor, just because it burned out, I was wondering if it is really necessary to send it all the way out for a week, because she desperately needs this computer for college, are there any guides, or hints you could refer me to to fix this.

TBH I would personally send it away to be proffessionally fixed rather than attempt myself and I will attempt all pc repairs but laptops I leave well alone.

Oh its most likely to be the backlight thats gone... is their text and desktops you can faintly see on the screen? or nothing at all?

just a very quick search and this is a rough guide but most likely not for the laptop you have http://www.fonerbooks.com/laptop_5.htm

For a temporary fix (I also hate working on laptops, but it is part of my job), most laptops have a vga out. So, try hooking up an external monitor to the laptop. Of course you are going to have to hit the appropriate keys on the keyboard to allow this function to work!
