I have a decent laptop with a nasty crack across my screen... is it possible to purchase a laptop without the hardrive and then put mine into it? Will it work? What will it take to get it running and be pretty much just like the one I have without the cracked screen??? Thanks in advance...

HI and Welcome to Majorgeeks as this is the welcome center you originally posted your question in and a place to say HI, over posting questions I will re-direct your post on laptops to the hardware section of the forum.

If you have a question look down the list of different sections of the forum and pick the best one that fits your question to post in :)

Thanks, that is helpful... I see screws located in a different spot on my HP Pavilion. If I were to figure out how to get this thing opened, where's the best place to purchase a replacement LCD? Thanks again...

Wow, I just called a couple of places for a price on a replacement LCD and they want $450 - $500!!! I'll either buy a new computer, find one without a hard drive, or just suck it up with my cracked crappy computer.

Check out ebay for dead HP Pavillions, or replacement screens.
    Do a google search for
"Hp Pavillion xxxxx (your model) screen" (add replacement--might give more links, or do 2 searches).

Run your current laptop with an external screen, may be a short term solution.

One problem with putting your hard drive into a different make, or even different model HP, maybe drivers for the new laptop conflict with drivers from your old hard drive.

Laptops usually have lots of software loaded, specifically designed for that make and model. :p Bazza
