laserjet vs inkjet quality question

Someone here must know.
Does an inkjet printer produce a better quality printout than a laserjet printer? Or is the difference even noticeable? Not talking about photos, just everyday printing of text and included pictures.

 

The simply short answer is NO Laser printers produce better quality than Inkjet printers. Inkjets are limited by there nozzle size and water based inks. Think of an Inkjet as painting a wall with a paint roller versus a brush(Laser) Hope that helps

 

The answer is: It depends on the dpi (dots per inch). An old 300dpi laser printer isn't going to produce better results than a 600dpi inkjet. There are also photo-quality inkjets (I have a 5760x1440dpi) that produce photo output virtually indistinguishable from emulsion prints on the appropriate paper stock.

Where higher dpi inkjets fall down against lower dpi lasers is on the use of the wrong paper. Cheaper paper can let the ink dots "bleed", producing fuzzy edges on text. Since laser toner is basically carbon dust and plastic, it usually stays put as laid down (unless you try to use it on typewriter bond paper, where it tends to flake off).

 

thanks for clearing this up a bit. think I need to replace a near 9 year old printer with a new one. Have a photo printer that is great but ink is costly. just want speed, and at least good quality for a lot of everyday printing jobs. thanks for the opinions.
