Last.FM scrobbler creates "Startup" folder on desktop

So for a few months I've noticed the appearance of a folder called "Startup" on the desktop. I'd delete it and then it would reappear later, though I rarely noticed when it was created. It's completely empty, and it can be deleted with no issue.

I recently figured out that it gets created when I open the Last.FM scrobbler. I tried looking through the configuration options, program files, program data and the registry, but there's nothing I can find which clues in to the creation of this folder. I've hidden the folder and changed my settings to not display hidden items. However, I prefer to have hidden items shown, and I'm a bit picky about things being on my desktop.

Is there a fix for this, rather than just a "hide it and ignore it" workaround? Or possibly a registry key that I could add to prevent its creation?

    Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I also have tried reinstalling the program, which didn't work either.

    Greetings, Valgrindar.

Not familiar with that program, but it sounds like something is triggering a startup entry. In System Configuration (msconfig), is there anything pertaining to the program listed in the Startup tab? If so, you might try unchecking the item(s), reboot, and see if your symptoms change.

    Hey Caliban

I checked the Startup tab, and while I was there I looked into the Services as well, and it's not listed anywhere. Thanks for the suggestion, though; I did find some things which I've forgotten to check off in the past. ;)

    Strange.

Most startups are located in HKCU\Software and HKLM\Software - if you're feelin' froggy, you could do some more digging around in there, try to find something related. Just be careful, though.

Another shot - you said you tried reinstalling the program. How about uninstalling temporarily? Might give you some more clues.

    Hi

What Windows version do you have?

Have you linked this upto iPod, Skype etc if so what are all the links?

I have Scrobbler in Windows 7 and looked like you did around the menus and nothing to change the default folder etc If you right click the folder are there in the properties anything to highlight the path of this folder (apart from C:\Users\username\desktop)

What do you have listed in your startup? their maybe a trigger app like having WMP or Skype etc starting on boot, could supply us a list of startups by following the below as written.

Caliban: Took another look, couldn't really find anything. I could try uninstalling the program for a few days or so, and check it again later.

David: I'm running it on Windows 7. I couldn't find anything regarding paths in the options, and the folder's properties didn't have any paths listed anywhere except for the location you mentioned.

The only thing I have it linked with is iTunes and my iPod.

I've attached the startup list from CCleaner. The folder is created any time the program is started. It is configured to open up with iTunes, though the folder is created any time the program is opened at all, not just on system startup (if that makes any sort of difference).

Hi there Valgrindar, not trying to chase you away from MG's, but if you go to Last FM and register they might be able to help better there, i'm only saying this due to i use Last FM myself and when i have a problem they'ver usually helped out quicker there, as not many of MG people know about it !

Hope this helps you out, Rusty ! :)

Yeah, I'll go check out their support forums. I rarely go to the source anymore, since third party support typically proves much more useful and competent (for example, last week Panasonic's tech support told me my video card's DVI output was producing an analog signal... the cable is a DVI-D single link).

Thanks for the help though, everybody! :)
