Last minute review...

I just wanted to see if I am about to do the right steps for my overclock. I read the sticky and let me know if I am doing something wrong.

change multiplier
change fsb

I have a C2D e6850
evga nforce 650i ultra mobo
4gb 800mhz ddr2 ram
250gb internal hdd
250gb external hdd
640mb xfx 8800gts
700w ocz gamerxstream psu
arctic cooling freezer 7
i dont think im forgetting anything

 

I do not have experience of overclocking Intel cpu's but can offer the following advice.

Once you have overclocked your cpu, run Prime95 to check for stability issues. Also o/cing as far as AMD cpus are concerned can require more v.core which raises the cpu temp. Accordingly, I would also monitor that temp in the event that your processor requires more juice.

step 1: go into BIOS
step 2: raise FSB
step 3: try to boot into windows
step 4: if that doesnt work, either bump the voltage up one notch or lower the FSB until it boots.
step 5: Try playing a game or running 3dMark. If it crashes, repeat step 4. If successful and you're satisfied, continue to step 6 or start all over until you are happy with your OC
step 6: once finished, run Orthos for at least 7 hours to determine if it's completely stable

If you get too crazy with your OC then you're gonna have to start messing with your memory as well. Also, when u add voltage make sure to keep an eye on your temps as it will significantly increase heat output.

Another note: core 2 duos tend to OC very well at stock voltages so dont add any extra unless you really "need" to
