    Hey y'all!

I am running Windows XP home, and have an HP photosmart C5150 all-in-one printer attached. A couple of weeks ago I scanned a document I needed to send with an email. I finally managed to do it after some trial and error (like not being able to find where the document file went after scanning) and sent it off. Ever since then, I keep getting a text file named Last Write popping up on my desktop. I found out what it is, but why does it keep coming onto my desktop? (I keep trashing the file.) I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer software, thinking I screwed something up when I played around with it while trying to scan, but I can't lose this annoying little file. It comes up as a text file in Notepad. What did I do, and how do I fix it??? :confused

    Thanks for any help!

From looking and reading, I think it has to do with .NET 4.
You might have changed something to notify you when a file's properties changes.
Specifically this is what I found:
    Source: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.io.notifyfilters.aspx

Does this show up when you scan something or when you scan or print something?
You might need to look over where your scans are stored and change some things there.

    Hi plodr!

I haven't scanned anything since that thing I did two weeks ago, and I've only printed one thing, but the file comes every day. I deleted it last night, and after I turned my computer on this morning, it popped up just after 7:30 a.m. I think it happened after I finished reading Dear Abby (every morning with my coffee!). When I opened it, it says:

    8/24/2011 7:36:42 AM

and that's all. It hasn't added anything or changed all day, even tho' I have been on the computer working all day (transcriptionist).

I may very well have done some changes when I scanned that thing because I couldn't find it anywhere after it was supposed to be done, so I did play around with it and finally got it in My Documents. But I thought when I did an uninstall/reinstall of the printer software it would set everything back to the default settings and this little file thingy wouldn't be there anymore - wrong!!

I went to the link you gave me and I understand NOTHING there!!! Do you think it's likely the printer, then? And that I have to actually sit through the tutorials and learn how to properly use the :mad thing?? NOOoooooo.....

No, I think it has something to do with .NET 4.
Because you went through your files in Explorer
    You might have changed something.

First create a restore point then do A or B below.
    A) Easy way until you figure out what change was made: delete the file every day.
    b) Hard way: restore the computer to 2 weeks ago before you scanned the file. If it works by the txt file not appearing for a few days, then start to do windows updates.
If it doesn't work because the txt file still appears, rstore to the file you created in step 1.
