Running XPsp2. Is it advisable to install these periodic updates, as they usually update about every 3 months. If so, is it a simple install over the currently installed version? Anything to watch out for in doing so? Thanks.

    Hi

Yes, always a wise choice to keep upto date with any major updates, I always have tried to keep DirectX upto date, especially if a gamer as the updates do add more funtcions and possibly at times speed and stability.

Yes it updates over the top of previous versions and no major issues to look out for, bit I would urge a system backup or important data or make an image clone if you have Ghost or Acronis type software.

Also after updating I would also check for latest graphic card drivers and install those.

What about all these cab files that came with the download...as requested I chose to store them at Windows\WUTemp. Were similar files already somewhere in Windows or Windows Explorer for the previous DirectX version? Should they be kept now since I've downloaded the March 08 update? I understand what DirectX is for, but not where it resides in XP and how or when it activates or supports other software or its content.
