I've basically put this post on Dell's forums, but I figured what the heck...

I need some help for my niece, who has ceribal palsy.

We both have the same make and model of Dell Latitude CPx. I bought both at a used computer dealer, her's first, then mine later. They had both came with XP, but I am more comfortable with Win98SE, so I traded the built in HD for a larger laptop HD (he kept the original) and he installed the older OS. For me this turned out to be a good thing, more on this in a moment

Later I bought a docking bay with the little table that comes with it (for the monitor). It came up first time on my computer (the one with 98SE), I have been extremely happy with it. I also bought a spare power supply so when traveling as an advisor for DeMolay to the various hotel rooms it is a breeze to pack, just pull the computer from it's docking bay, slap in the bag, and off I go.

I liked it so much that when a second unit became available I bought it for her. We both use wireless PMCA cards, which doesn't enter into it, but I thought I would mention.

Anyhow, my computer works great in both bays, no problems. Her's starts to work, but locks in the middle of the XP screen with the little moving graphic under the Windows XP log. I can enter BIOS OK, and I tried the XP safe screen with networking, where it locks after entering most of what I assume are the drivers. I tried using her XP pro disk to repair the computer, no luck.

This is not a Dell install of XP as far as I can tell. I have the key code, and she has used this computer for several years with no issues, mainly on the internet. It still works fine in stand alone mode, it is the docking bay where it pukes. I've tryied to navigate the Dell website, and have found no joy there, although my problem may be listed.

I'm pretty literate concerning computers, but have just made the jump to XP on my home front. I'm not even tempted on my laptop, but my home brewed home PC is upgrading nicely. There are a lot of niuances in XP I have yet to learn.

Any ideas where to go now? Thanks.

    Bill
