last I heard was they were having some software upgrades which were not going to plan.

other rumours are that they are only supplying support to paid versions of software.... I would go with the forum is experiencing problems of late.

Hi. The Lavasoft Support forums closed four weeks ago tonight. At that time it was indicated that it was for a software upgrade. Since it has been four weeks, it appears that support for Ad-Aware SE Personal is no longer being provided by Lavasoft.

There are a number of ASAP member sites that have long been providing support for Ad-Aware. Included among them are the sites below that myself and members of the former Team Lavasoft frequent regularly:

    Freedomlist
    Kill Spyware at Subratam.org
    Castle Cops Security Professionals
CARMA Council of Advocates for Relief from Malware Assimilation

A full list is available here: Ad-Aware SE Personal Support.

Note that Ad-Aware SE Plus and Professional Home and Corporate users can obtain email support from here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/customer_support/

Thanks for the update Corrine Rose :)

Its a pretty poor thing to do close the offical support forum, ok the majority of users do use the free version of the software, but its this core user group that has built Lavasoft up to where it is today as one of the biggest anti-spyware companies.

A majority of users who start off with the free version and get used to it and start to like it I would guess do go on to buy the full version, maybe a lack of offical support for the free version will stop many from progressing to the full paid version??!!

presonal note: I would not buy/upgrade to the full paid version if a company didnt offer some support to the free version as I would think.. well if this is their lack of support for the free version then whats the paid version support like?

That's like the support forum for Intuit Turbotax. We, as technical support, were forbidden from posting there. users used to hash out how/if they could fix things, and when they were haneously wrong, and admin would step in and officially declare that it was not a supported decision.

most of us felt so bad we made up fake ID's and posted anyway. Saving the thankless masses... it's really crappy when a company wont even support it's own product, but they have no problems releasing it half baked unto the masses...

    Hello to you !
There are quite a few strange things about lavasoft.
    I've seen in a German PC-internet-newspaper a comment
    ( http://www.pcwelt.de/forum/thread156833.html ) that all support for
ad-aware free has been suspended probably for cost reasons.
Hundreds of employees have been sacked according to this comment.
There is still one forum but for registered users only for Lavasoft SE Professional.
Very sad and not so convincinng if this is all true. No idea whether all these things are connected with this software upgrade.
I've written an email to lavasoft a week ago about that but there is no response at all.

With all the other apps out there these days, do you really need Ad-Aware.... IMO, Spybot and M$ AntiSpyware, in conjunction with SpywareBlaster, do a better job.

As of today, 5-28, still no forums listed at their web site. I have also sent them 2 emails this month with no reply or even an acknowledgement. Looks like kuku might be right! It may just be time to look for some new and better products. Too bad I paid for their best version.
Thanks everyone for your information. Lavasoft sure wasn't willing to give any.

For now!!! Spyware or should I say spyware scanning and removal is a growing business? who knows what they may do in the future, I would guess that they may see what MS are going to do with their AntiSpy app.

Strangely my Adaware just point blank refuses to finish these days unless i have no other applications running. I dont know what its like across the pond but Pandas Active scan now no-longer removes what it finds (assuming it does find something) so i use Trends Housecall instead.

I did notice recently that Spybot had an "apology" about something which was said about Adaware, althought the wording was a touch curious lol I'd not be too suprised to see the money aspect kick in and people finding applications like Adaware and Spybot being "Pay for only" apps. Thats supposed to be the plan for MS antispy software isnt it? I dont doubt they put in the hours for it to merit being paid for, but what bugs me is that if you use a purchased browser, the company isnt liable for that browsers vulnerabilities. If something went wrong with any other purchased product you would be able to have some form of comeback. People are too happy to accept faults as a "fact of life".

I wonder if the people who make browsers won a contract to make car airbags, would everyone be prepared to accept that same standard of manufacture?

Adaware 1.06 actually fixes this. I've ran it on 4 different machines and it is heck of a lot better and faster....

Curiously, I wondered what happened to LAVASOFT'S forum as well. I'm looking at the features of XoftSpy 4.15. Their claim is the "Latest and Most Advanced Spyware Detection and Removal application on the Internet. We will prevent anyone from "spying" on your Internet activites". Lavasoft's adaware scans just fine for me with the SE 1.06 version but maybe it's time to move fwd with another package. Anyone had excellant results with the XOFTSPY 4.15?

from what i gather from the spyware moderators here, Xoftspy isn't one of the BETTER spyware removers... apparently it has alot of "false positives"...
