LCD Dimming/Power Switch Blinking - What Is Wrong?

I can take PC's apart, rebuild them, and trouble shoot them. But Macs, alas, are an unknown beast. We use them exclusively at school and they drive me nuts. They are seem so clinical and antispetic, and well . . . soul-less. Oh well, that is my opinion, not a fact. Anyway, on to my problem:

I have a Mac at school that has a large LCD screen. Don't ask me what specifically what kind, it has an apple picture on it:) Anyway, over the last month or so, the power switch on the monitor (which also turns the computer on and off) would blink and the screen would dim. It would only do it occasionally, but now it does it all of the time.

I tinkered with the settings such as screensaver, sleep, etc. No luck. I figured it was an energy saving setting somewhere. If so, I can't find it. So, is the LCD dying or is it another issue altogehter? I have no idea if this is an appropriate place to ask a Mac question but I thought I would give it a shot.

    Thanks.
