    Hey,

I'm having trouble with my LCD monitor.

For about a week, lines and blocks of colour have been appearing on the display and occasionally the image shakes from side to side (horizontally)

For example on start up the bios screen has white vertical lines like - - - (but vertical). The black background of the 'starting windows screen' has the same but the lines of green. The black (normally blank screen) that comes up between this and windows loading has blocks of colour (blue, pink, off white).

System repair cannot fix this automatically and system restore hasn't worked.

I've tried a different monitor and a different cable and the same thing happens on both.

    Please advise.

    Thanks

    Steve

Hey Steve,by the symptoms your posting the video card is either dying or need cleaning out with canned air.

Video errors at the bios screen cannot be fixed or caused by windows so it isn't a Windows problem.

You've tried a different monitor and experienced the same symptom so that rules out the monitor.

The only thing left is the video card, first take the side off the case and check the fan is spinning, then I would remove it from the computer and clean off all the contacts on the card and in the video card port, clean out the fan with canned air and check its free to spin, reseat the card and try to boot.
