lcd screen trouble

hi hope this is in the right place. iv been bought an 2x16 lcd screen with paralell port connection. i have connected it and downloaded lcd smartie to configure it ,iv done wot is said in guides but nothing apears on screen except squares along top line and nothing on bottom line, any help would be great cheeeers.

 

Hardware forum is probably the right place for your question, but I think we need some more info. Is this a regular computer monitor LCD display or some sort of specialty display device -- e.g. something that just displays a bit of text like motherboard and cpu temps and fan velocities? I'm inclined to think it must be the latter as you describe it as having a parallel port interface which would be odd for a regular LCD computer monitor.

So give us some more info about the device you're requesting help with. And tell us what sort of system it's hooked up to -- kind of motherboard, cpu, graphics card, operating system, and so on.

Did you install the drivers and software that presumably came with the device? I'm not familiar with the software you say you downloaded, but the device likely needs a driver installed before you can configure it. And what about adjusting settings on your motherboard's BIOS? Did you buy this device used or new? Did you get installation instructions with it? Do they say anything about needing to tweak BIOS settings or install drivers for the device?

 

hi yes its the later an lcd display that can display small amounts of data. it came with no drivers software or instructions, the person who bought it me said google lcd smartie to d load software, which i did and i also d loaded the drivers from there instuctions too .
