Leadtek 6600GT new drivers still not working properly...

Hi guys,
I have a Leadtek 6600GT which I bought at the beginning of January. I installed the latest drivers from Leadtek's website (71.84) which were dated 25/3/2005. These are the first updated drivers from Leadtek since 2004 so I figured these drivers would solve all the problems, seems reasonable right? Well performance in games is definatly better, but the games still crash after about 30 minutes of play. Do you think I should RMA the card as I have learned that many of the first batch of these cards were faulty? I mean, if leadtek took nearly 4 months to bring out this new driver, you'd think it would make the card run properly! (I've tried loads of other drivers, and none make the card work properly, always have to substitute something working well for something that dosn't work). I just don't want to RMA and find out the new card is as unstable as the current one.

I agree with what Halo said. My quick $0.02 would be for you to try a different Video card, any card, to quickly narrow down the list of possibilities.
As far as hardware goes, your main suspects would be:
1) Video card
2) RAM
3) Mobo
4) PSU

additionally, overheating of CPU, RAM and Video GPU is known to cause similar problems as well. Software-wise, it could be a device driver, processes running in the background, the game itself (or a missing patch?), corrupted OS files, malware infection, etc.
Again, try changing the video card to help narrow down the huge list of possibilities.

 

And to add to the above two replies, I've found in general that Leadtek support is useless, and so are their drivers.

I would definitely install the latest nVidia ones regardless.

 

this sounds like the GPU is overheating, make sure that there are no PCI cards blocking the airflow to the graphics card fan and heatsink,it might be good to remove any of them and see if it runs better, also maybe remove the metal plate that covers the slot for new PCI cards in the back of your case under ur GC so that the air that comes out of the heatsink can leave the case directly and therefore doesnt heat it up. but of course check your temps using Riva Tuner (which uses charts) so that u know how hot it runs under 20 min of heavy load.

 

I have an Nvidia card I also have had problems getting 71.84 to work properly turned out to be the install doubling up on a couple of drivers.It would be worth a look before spaending extra money.

 

and don't forget to uninstall previous drivers before installing old ones.

 

I'm using the 76.41 forceware drivers and so far so good. These are the most stable drivers i've used to far.
