Leak of memory with explorer and dial-up

Recently I’m suffering this problem: when I connect via dial-up modem the program explorer starts to increment its physical memory at a rate of 8 KB per second and the virtual memory at a rate of about 256 KB per second (as monitored with Task Manager) and after about two hours the computer run out of virtual memory. If I disconnect, the virtual memory allocated to explorer stops incrementing and it stays constant: it will not decrement to its original size (Physical= 31,756 KB Virtual = 42,484 KB ).
If I connect to the network via Ethernet no problems.

My configuration is:

Win 2000
Physical memory 512 MB
Virtual memory up to 1600 MB

Can anyone help me?

Just a quick question, have you installed any service packs?

 

Yes, I updated with the latest suggestions of Windows Update and as a matter of fact I have the impression that my problem started with the latest updating.

What version of IE are you using? Is it IE6 sp1?

 

The problem is not IE but explorer.exe. The problem starts as soon I'm connected via dial-up connection before running IE.
Anyhow I'm using IE6 sp1

 

I attached one file of information generated by Process Explorer. The file conteins a list of the running programs together with the handles and DLL's associated to the program explorer.exe.
I saved the situation before and after the connection.

I wonder if this can help
