hi im 14 and i want to learn things about computers all the time.

so i have a question if anyone knows the answer ( i hope you do!)
that will be great if you tell me.

    ok here it goes.
i have heared that when you delete things from the recycle bin.
for example i delete a desktop icon and then it goes into the recycle bin, and then from the recycle bun you then permenatly delete it...
once you have done that you can still recover certain items again (dunno how)

so can you please tell me (just out of curiosity) how you fisrst find the deleted items and the totally wipe them off your system.

    OTHER INFO

i have windows xp home edition.
my ICT skills are very good, (but not great.)
pc large specs 3.0 ghz .etc.
    and i think thats it...

    thanks UKARMYCADET.

When you remove data from the recycle bin all that is doing is to remove a file allocation from the OSs directory to that file, where its located and what size it is... say a start and end point, basically says to the OS that this space is now allocated as free space you can write too.

SO recovery... yes you can but only easily if that space or a portion of the HD hasnt been written too, software tools are avaiable to help recover data eg. PC Inspector File Recovery.

BUT if the data has been scrabled with being written over in full or part then specialist hardware recovery companys can take the HD apart and attempt recovery.

Secure wiping ( or near as dammit ) this can be achieved by using software programs that use DOD and Peter Gutmann algorithims to scramble the deleted sectors of the HD up and overwriting those deleted areas many times "multipass" methods can overwrite and scramble data upto 7+ times.

two programs that can do this are East Tec Eraser and Eraser ( Free )

Another good way to learn computers is to find a job that requires a fair amount of computer background. I know 14 is a tiny bit early, but my first job was at 15 or 16. Anyway, a tech related job (even sales at a place like BB or CC) gets you immersed in computers. People ask you questions that you'll have to find answers to. It helps a lot!

Another idea is visit sites like www.tomshardware.com www.hardocp.com www.hardforums.com and the list goes on. These sites often have explanations of tech and computer related news. If there are terms you are unfamiliar while reading, quick google search it until you feel you have a basic understanding of the new term.

If I were to write the for learning computers it would be...

read, read, read, google, ask questions, read, read, google, read, ask, goole, read, etc.

    GOOGLE IS YOR FRIEND!

thanks for all of your replys, they are good help. :)

i do use google a lot but asking people on forums seems to get me best results.

oh yeh i have another (of many) question...

on my old pc it had windows 2000, my old neighbour made the strart up screen (the thing that shows loading when you first turn your pc on, it is usually the windows icon.) to say my name. i didnt ask him how he did it at the time and i havent seen him since...

so can anyone tell me how to change that pic (i think it is written with numbers)

    thanks for your posts UKARMYCADET
