I am looking for a laptop with a 15.4" or near that screen, 2gHz Core Duo or around there, 2GB RAM, 80GB hard drive...but a video card that is worth a crap...I found the above options and an 8600GT video card for $1485 + shipping with some company called Mtech Laptops...

Is that about as inexpensive as I am going to find it? It had a lot of crap that I don't need, like webcam and other stuff integrated.

I'm looking to at least be able to run Oblivion.

I've checked the for sale threads and thread suggestions here...not really much popped up. Also, the search function here is not that impressive. I did a search in thread titles only for "gaming laptop" both with and without the quotes and the only response that matched was a locked thread halfway down the second page. No results otherwise in the first two pages returned with the words gaming AND laptop in the thread title.

I already have a super sweet desktop but I travel over two weeks per month.

for a gaming laptop, yeah thats about as cheap as its gonna get for a quality setup. ASUS makes really nice gaming laptops. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&Subcategory=32&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc=

My friend just got a really nice HP from Costco (gotta love that place) pretty much what you've described as far as specs for around $1400. You can customize one here: http://www.costco.com/CTO/HPConfigu...tchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1&model=RL653AV

I wouldnt bother with anything less than an 8600GS for a video card, my friend got the 8600GS and it runs pretty much all his games (CS:S, Oblivion, WC3 etc...) just fine.

EDIT: WOW that's a great deal!!! looks like a really nice setup

yeah. its as good as you're gonna be able to get unless you wanna dish out 3k+ for top of the line

however, pretty much every rig will have problems with oblivion outdoors on max settings but it stoll looks great on high and medium. it will do great on everything else though

Maybe part out some more $$$ for Vista Home Premium, rather than Home Basic, but I'll leave that to Vista users to vote on, and explain the differences, versus the $$$$ difference. Bazza

I dont need to worry about Vista. I have Ultimate on my current laptop that will get wiped and put on this one. I wish I could find someone that deducted more money and didnt give me an OS.

That Dell is a pretty good deal but it is a Dell. I've always loved ASUS products.
