Left-mouse Click Issue In Windows 10

I'm having a strange Windows 10 issue. My left mouse click is going out intermittently but it's only under certain circumstances. It won't work to click on the Start menu. It won't work when clicking on certain start buttons in programs and, in some cases, the right-click won't work either.

It's not a hardware issue. I've tried swapping to a wired mouse with the same results.

Others have reported similar problems and I've seen recommendations to run sfc /scannow as well as running certain scripts in Powershell. None of that helped. It was suggested that the problem might be a corrupt windows profile so I added another profile. For a few minutes, everything worked but then the same problem came up. I can reboot and it'll work fine but then stop working.

I reinstalled Windows 10. Same problem. I went back and completely reinstalled Windows 10 opting to delete all files and that didn't fix the problem.

However, despite doing a complete reinstall (opting not to keep files, apps, etc.) from a bootable DVD, I see that it's still showing my old custom wallpaper so it's apparently retaining some info even though I opted to format the SSD when reinstalling windows.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

If Windows 10 kept your wallpaper and other settings, it's because you signed in to your Microsoft account instead of a local one.

Have you tried using a different mouse? The buttons on this one may be wearing out OR if this mouse uses batteries (like mine does), it may be time to replace them.

    Not the mouse, mdonah.

Have you tried a different USB port for your mouse?

I used a different port when I plugged a wired mouse in. My Logitech keyboard and mouse share a receiver. Others have reported a similar problem but none of the solutions I found worked.

It's highly unlikely this is an issue with the mouse but mdonah's comment makes me wonder if the problem is it's the Microsoft online profile is corrupt? When I logged in after the fresh install, I did not have to locate my router or enter password info in and, as mentioned above, it added wallpaper. My NVIDIA control panel was already in place, too.

I reinstalled Windows yet again and haven't seen the problem pop up again. I also downloaded the latest software from Logitech to manage the mouse. If it doesn't happen again in the next 24 hours, I'll say I'm out of the woods.

I had a similar intermittent problem on my i7 Win 10 PC and on this PC I run a Logitech MX 5500 wireless deskset off a Belkin Flip KVM.
Not sure which fixed it as I did three things at the same time and didn't go back to check in case I was tempting fate.
The three things I did was swap the Logitech transmitter from a USB 3.0 port to a USB 2.0 port and then I ran tweaking.com Windows Repair then straight after I also installed classic shell.
Since I have been running classic shell I haven't seen the problem in the past 6 months so quite likely one of the above actions fixed it.
