Our son got a letter from some lawyers yesterday and a sentence baffled us as to its meaning. I'm always impressed by the variety and diverse extent of knowledge in here, so I thought I would put it out there for you guys and see what you come up with as a definition please :)

"Please be advised that our client is secured by a purchase money security interest in consumer goods"

    Any takers?

 No clue. I guess what would be "job security", now you have to pay a lawyer to interpet it.

Don't suppose Lawyers have a Forum like this? Probally a law against posting free legal advice.. as they would be held accountable.

I'm willing to bet that you'd get different answers from different lawyers on that question anyway.

Is he getting sued or something? A witness?

    LOL..way to go Halo.....nice one! Thanks :)

The wording in the example cited on that site is EXACTLY the wording of the letter my son has. The legal advice given afterward is really helpful. I think I'll go with the last posting on that forum and get our son to send a letter back saying PROVE IT :p

it has always been my belief that lawyers invented "legalese" for the sole purpose of confusing the common man into believing that they are needed. it is in fact their job security. they write the laws in it (ever tried to read federal legislation you will know what i mean) and they interpret the laws in it. thats why... (with one exception where incarceration was possible) i dont use them. if you have reasonable intelligence and know how to use reference material you mostly dont need them.

knowing the context of the sentance would help a lot but im sure its personal so here is my best guess.....

im thinking this is a lawsuit of some kind and what they are telling your son is that their client is protected by some law or contract from a consumer based lawsuit.

    good luck

It's interesting you should post Mississippi....this outfit are based in Tucson, AZ. Can you go round and beat them up a little for us please? :p

It's a long story, but this letter, from what I read of the link Halo posted, is just trying it on. The actual problem was resolved some time ago legally.

    Thanks for your help :)

i lived in Tucson for about 2 years way back. great city. ummmmm yeah sure Lev i would love to go down there and lean on the offender for you. and in my younger days i probably would. (see reference in my above post to possible incarceration) but nowa days i am much older and i hope a tad wiser. i choose my battles more carefully and fight them much more inteligently. (shhh dont anyone tell my ex....she STILL thinks im an idiot and i prefer it that way) :D

Hehe..ok, I am going to hijack my own thread here. If anyone complains to the Admins....it's ok...I don't mind if I do this ;)

Yeah, Tucson is a great city. I was there for July 4 in 2002 with about 30 other internet friends from all over the world. What a blast. Shame the mountians got torched that summer, but otherwise a beautiful part of the world. Trip down to Nogalas in Mexico was pretty interesting too.
