I recieved Lego Star Wars for Christmas, and now I've encountered a problem. Upon starting the game, I recieve an error message, and tell it to ignore said error. I can enter the game, and wander around in the opening area before beginning any missions with out trouble. Upon trying to start a mission though, I get a black screen. I can alt-tab out, but on returning, I get the same error, and it ends the game no matter which option I choose.

I'm running Win98, though, so I know the technical support will be more useless than usual. Does anyone know how I can solve the problem, or failing that, turn the movies off? I've yet to locate any information after an hour of searching, so any help is appreciated.

Merry Christmas and thanks in advance.

What are your systems specifications, and what does the error message say at the beginning of the game? Since you said windows 98, I'm going to assume that your computer is rather dated? There could be problems with your system not being powerful enough, especially on the graphics end, to run the game.

I'm curious to find out exactly why everyone associates 98, with dated hardware? But I'm not intending to offend.

    AMD Duron 1.2Ghz.
    1022MB RAM
    ATI Radeon 9600 128MB

Probably because the operating system itself is over eight years old. Heck, my oldest computer was built in 96, and it's running windows 2000. And, by today's standards, you're hardware is pretty dated as well.

Anyway, here are the Minimum System Requirements from Amazon:

    Microsoft Windows 2000/XP
Pentium III 1.0gHz (or Athlon equivalent)
    256 MB System Memory
100% DirectX 9 compatible 32MB Direct3D card with Pixel Shader support

Your operating system and processor would be you limitations here. If you can get the game to play at all, it would be at close to the lowest settings. You are currently at the point where you will find yourself not being able to play any of the newest games, even at the lowest settings. If you want to do more than office, internet, and email, an upgrade should be in the close future. You can try updating your drivers, and applying various tweaks to get the best performance possible from your system, but don't expect miracles.

Your computer is too old to run the game man. Cooked pretty much summed it all up for you right there.

I like to have that amount as a cushion, though I have found some games I can play WELL below the recommended specs.

Thank you rik_na, for restoring my faith in being able to come here and get help.

There's no need to get snippy. You asked for help and I gave you my opinion based on the information you gave me. The truth is that your computer is older and not very powerful compared to today's standards and you are going to run into problems playing games with a computer below the required specifications. I'm going to say it again, as it's the most honest advice I can give. If you plan on playing more games, especially anything more recent, you are going to want to seriously look into a new computer.

Take my advice as you will, I'm just trying to help out.

I'm sorry about that. I'm not trying to be offensive. I'm acutely aware of the fact that I have to upgrade, but I'm currently short of funds to do so. I was hoping for a work around until I can get the upgrade.
