Lenovo G510 "Whitelist"? (Wi-Fi Cards)

I just picked up a new, closeout Lenovo G510 i5 notebook PC (model 20238) with full warranty for $300.

The Wi-Fi card failed after a few days. Since I've already upgraded the HDD and transferred about 120GB of stuff over, exchanging it isn't a viable option. The Wi-Fi card is easy to reach, so changing it out myself shouldn't be a problem.

The current card is a Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG that also has Bluetooth built-in. It should be (in theory, anyway) easy to pull it out and replace it with an Intel-branded card.

    Not so fast.

While searching Amazon for a new card, I've run into several Q&As about Lenovo's "Whitelist." It seems they lock down their UFEI BIOS so that only certain Wi-Fi chipsets will work - hence, a "whitelist" of the ones that will work, versus a "blacklist" of those that don't.

I could not find this Whitelist on the official Lenovo site. The closest thing I did find was a generic G510 spec page that states the model (usually) ships with Intel Wi-Fi cards, but doesn't list the specific chipsets. rolleyes

I'd rather not stick with the OEM card, even if Lenovo ships me a new one (reviews show this Atheros card often fails). Short of trial and error, how can I find out what Intel Wi-Fi cards will work in the PC?
