    My PC started recognising my printer as a mass storage device about a week ago.

    I tried downloading a new driver for my Lexmark P915 printer from lexmark. It won't download as my printer is now recognised as a mass storage device. It seems that the PC is trying to save the driver to the printer. As there is no memory space it won't work.

    Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

    * Go into the "printers" menu in Windows and delete the printer.

    * Immediately disconnect the USB cable (before Windows rediscovers the printer and attempts to automatically reinstall the software) and turn off the power to the printer.

    * Uninstall any Lexmark "helper" programs using add/remove programs.

    * Reboot the PC.

    * Turn on and reconnect the printer. If the printer has a built-in card reader, be sure no SD/Memory Stick/etc. cards are inserted in it. Hopefully Windows will recognize it as a printer.

    Not positive this will work; however it's worth a try.

    Hi

    Hmm sounds strange...

    I had a similar issue with taking a usb flash drive out and then replacing in the same port another usb device it would sometimes see the former device, a restart was the only way...

    After you have removed the old drivers - so basically your starting fresh printer install.
    Try installing the printers drivers and then updates first, without the printer connected ;)

    Quite a few usb devices now days seem to require the drivers to be installed prior to the device being plugged in. This way the information is there for the printer before it is physically attached to the network / pc etc... so hopefully it shouldnt have an issue and default the prnters internal memory as actual storage memory..

    Possibly -
    Since the printer doesnt differentiate between what type of memory it has, so it cant reort to the p.c whats type of memory it is looking at, then the p.c doesnt know any different and the P.C tells the user it is storage device.. Then perhaps the P.C thinks the printers memory is like a flash drive. Next the P.C tries to install the data for the printers drivers actualy on to the printers memory...which is often quite small.

    If as you say "it seems to be trying to installing the drivers to the printer" - my take would be to install the drivers first.. and then attach the printer.

    G luck:wave
